Eyelid ptosis treatment is a surgical procedure designed to correct drooping of the upper eyelid, a condition known as ptosis. Ptosis occurs when the muscle responsible for lifting the eyelid becomes weakened or stretched, causing the eyelid to droop over the eye. In some cases, this can obstruct vision, cause eye strain, headaches, or create a tired or asymmetrical appearance.
Ptosis can develop naturally with age, be present from birth, or occur following injury, surgery, or certain neurological conditions. Treatment involves tightening or repairing the muscles that lift the eyelid, restoring a more natural eyelid position while improving both vision and appearance.
At Battersea Hospital, our experienced ophthalmic surgeons provide personalised treatment using advanced surgical techniques to restore eyelid function and achieve natural-looking results.

Ptosis can develop due to ageing, weakened eyelid muscles, previous eye surgery, injury, certain neurological conditions, or it may be present from birth (congenital ptosis).
If your drooping eyelid is obstructing your field of vision, surgery can significantly improve your sight as well as your overall comfort.
Incisions are usually placed within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, making any resulting scar discreet and typically difficult to notice once healed.
Most patients return to normal daily activities within one week. Mild swelling and bruising are expected initially and usually settle over the following one to two weeks.
